Personal items to take while Photographing a Wedding
Updated: Aug 24, 2022
1) Water bottle.
I cannot express enough how important it is to have water with you. I remember the first wedding I captured, and I felt sick. You don't realize how much walking you do throughout an entire wedding day, and let's not forget the 20 lbs. in gear you're hauling around. You're also constantly getting into different positions to capture that perfect shot and before you know it your body is worn out. From the getting ready photos early in the morning to the late-night dances. Stay hydrated! This will help you stay energized and bubbly the full day for your clients.
2) Snack
Keep a snack in your camera bags at all times. Trust me! It is very hard to wait until dinner when you begin shooting at 9a.m. I normally have granola bars, trail mix and beef jerky. Really anything that doesn't need refrigerated.
3) Gum.
I love to keep gum in my bag to stay refreshed. It's perfect after chatting for several hours or eating. As photographers we don't necessarily have the luxury of going to freshen up throughout the day.
4) Deodorant.
This one is so important for me. Especially in summer. Keep a small trail sized deodorant in your bag. You will thank me later for this one! We don't want to be lifting our cameras up all day and smelling ourselves haha
5) Tennis Shoes.
Please wear your most comfortable shoes. You have a long day ahead. Trust me my first few weddings I thought I could pull off cute shoes. That went out the window real fast!
6) Jacket.
Depending on where you live, I would always keep a jacket in the car. For me in Colorado, the nights get chilly, even in summer. If the reception and dancing are taking place outside, you don't want to be shivering while trying to hold your camera still.
7) Ponytail.
Yup! Have an extra in your bag! It's the worst when you snap a scrunchy and don't have a backup. For me personally I like to put my hair up in a cute bun. Otherwise, my hair gets tangled in my camera strap and that's annoying!!
8) Body spray
If it's a hot day, it's always nice to freshen up before the reception. Having a body spray or perfume always makes me feel good!
9) Cell Phone.
Now obviously have this on silent during the ceremony. I love having my cell and taking behind the scenes photos for my page. Your clients will love to see what you're up too.
10) Fit bit or Apple watch.
I love to wear my watch throughout the day. I can track my steps and receive notifications. It's also important to keep track of the time and ensuring you stay on schedule.
11) Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
Now I don't normally take medicine, but when your back and neck start aching from all the weight you've been carrying you will be happy to have it.
12) Hand sanitizer.
Especially now more than ever! Stay clean and don't risk getting sick.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
